The loss left Diana an orphan at a young age, and she was raised primarily by her grandparents, Don Emilio and Señora Milagros.

Rather than turning away from the work that took her parents’ lives, Diana chose to continue it.

As she grew older, Diana became determined to understand aviation herself. She eventually trained to fly small aircraft, believing that the ability to reach remote communities quickly could save lives in situations where medical care would otherwise arrive too late.

Diana is also openly lesbian and has become known for her thoughtful support of LGBTQ+ initiatives in the Philippines. Her advocacy mirrors the Olazabal style of influence—measured, purposeful, and grounded in institutional support rather than spectacle.

Her life intersects closely with that of Alex Gil Medina.

The two first became acquainted within the environment of Switzerland’s international boarding school circles, where children from prominent families often studied. Diana was approximately two years older than Alex, which meant their time together was limited by the difference in their academic years.

Although they had known each other socially for some time, their relationship deepened during the period leading up to Diana’s graduation. Because Diana was preparing to leave Switzerland and return to Manila, their romance unfolded within a short but meaningful period.

When Diana eventually graduated and moved on to the next phase of her life, the distance made continuing the relationship difficult. Despite its brevity, the relationship left a lasting emotional imprint.

Diana became Alex’s first serious girlfriend and one of the first people who helped Alex fully understand and embrace her own identity.

Diana’s openness about her sexuality—and the calm confidence with which she navigated elite social spaces—gave Alex the courage to become more comfortable with herself as well.

Beyond this relationship, Diana also shares a long-standing connection with Stella.

Years earlier, Diana briefly encountered Stella as a child while visiting a modest dental clinic run by Stella’s mother. Stella, then still very young, spent much of her time drawing quietly near the window while her mother worked. Diana remembered the sketches long before she remembered the girl herself.

Years later their lives crossed again during a medical outreach mission in Tabogon, Cebu, organized through the Olazabal Foundation’s Rural Health Initiative after a devastating storm struck the region. Stella accompanied her mother, who had volunteered as part of the dental team assisting displaced residents.

Working together in temporary treatment stations inside a coastal public school, Diana and Stella spent several days helping manage patients, organizing supplies, and assisting volunteer doctors.

What began as polite familiarity gradually grew into a warm friendship.

The Olazabals also came to admire Stella’s artistic sensitivity and discipline. Her natural curiosity and quiet determination impressed the family enough that the Olazabal Foundation later offered Stella a scholarship grant to support her education.
