Isabel Gabrielle Tan

Isabel Gabrielle Tan is the kind of person people misunderstand at first.

At 5’7”, with hazel eyes and the same wavy black hair as her twin brother Lucas, she carries the same striking presence—but where Lucas is warmth and sunlight, Isabel is ice. Calm. Measured. Composed.

Among their friends, she is simply called Bel.

Bel is the female version of Lucas Tan in almost every way—same intelligence, same discipline, same quiet loyalty. But where Lucas leads with charm, Bel leads with silence. She rarely raises her voice, rarely interrupts, and rarely explains herself. Yet people often find themselves following her decisions before realizing she has already guided the room.

It is one of her most remarkable abilities: leading others without them realizing they are being led.

Bel also sees things earlier than most.

She notices patterns long before they become obvious. Motives, tensions, alliances—Bel reads them the way other people read weather forecasts.

Perhaps that is why she has always understood something about her brother that Lucas himself rarely admits out loud.

Lucas has loved Cass Young since they were children.

Bel knew it before anyone else.

She watched it in small ways: the way Lucas stood a little closer to Cass during arguments, the way he quietly checked if she had eaten after long rugby practices, the way he became protective whenever someone new entered their orbit.

First Alex.
Later Stella.

Lucas never said much about it, but Bel saw the pattern clearly.

Sometimes she even jokes that Lucas might love Cass more than he loves her.

And that is perfectly fine.

Because Bel loves Cass too.

Cass is one of the few people in the world who can match Bel mentally—and sometimes even beat her in debates. But Bel remains the only one who can reliably defeat Cass in chess. The two have played countless matches since childhood, often surrounded by the rest of their friends arguing over moves.

If Lucas is the heart of their circle, Bel is the mind.

Outside their friend group, however, people see her differently.

To outsiders, Isabel Tan is the Ice Queen of Saint Claire.

She speaks little. Observes everything. And almost never reveals what she is thinking.

But those who know her understand that beneath the composure is someone unexpectedly cool and deeply loyal. Bel rarely dramatizes emotions, yet she is often the quiet force ensuring everyone else stays safe, stable, and together.

Her strategic mind also makes her dangerous at games.

In chess she is ruthless.
In poker she is nearly impossible to beat.

At sixteen, during a trip to Paris, Bel entered a private poker table with players far older and far more experienced than she was. By the end of the night she had won a three-bedroom flat facing Retiro Park in Madrid.

Her friends eventually forced her to leave the table before she won anything else.

If Isabel Gabrielle Tan has one flaw, it may be this: she is very good at gambling.

Too good, according to Lucas.

But Bel herself sees it differently.

To her, poker is simply another puzzle—another set of human patterns waiting to be solved.

Still, for all her strategic brilliance, the people who matter most to her know something else about Bel.

Behind the calm eyes and the quiet intelligence is someone fiercely protective of the people she calls family.

Lucas. Cass. Ava. Bea. Alex.

Bel may appear cold to the world.

But to the few she trusts, she is one of the most loyal friends a person could ever have.

And perhaps that is why so many people who meet her wish they had a sister like Isabel Tan.

Or a friend like Bel.
