The Making of Zompocalypse Arrives: From Space to the Front Cover

The idea behind the Mewmiwmiw Takes Back the World coloring books is to introduce the characters and the Story World while letting readers color their way through the adventure. Naturally, we decided to begin with the tiny extraterrestrial mushroom that set off a rather enormous chain of events: Astroshroom.

Zompocalypse Arrives begins with Astroshroom’s journey through space toward Asteroid Belt 168. Things did not go quite according to the travel itinerary, and Astroshroom eventually finds itself heading toward an unintended destination: Earth.

Starting With the Cover

The front cover started as a rough composition. We played around with the placement of Astroshroom, Earth, the meteor trail, the title, and the direction of the action before bringing everything together in the final artwork.

We kept screenshots along the way, including the early composition and the artwork inside Clip Studio Paint. Here’s a little peek at what the cover looked like while it was still being made.

As of September 1, 2026, Zompocalypse Arrives is still being made. The coloring book is not yet available, and we’re excited to share the news once the full adventure is ready. For now, consider this your little peek inside the making of the Zompocalypse. 🍄☄️
